It was August 8, 2008 when Francis "Kiko" Durango Magalona, the Master Rapper was diagnosed with acute myelogenous leukemia. But with his family and friends support he remained positive and fight the battle against cancer.
He undergone series of treatments and it was not that easy though as you can see on the photos. Everytime he got discharged from the hospital he keeps himself productive by still doing photography, tv guestings, and making cool designs for his clothing line. He also founded a foundation with Ely Buendia( Eraserheads frontman who has a heart disease) called the Heartist Foundation which aims to help Filipino artists with health problems. The two recently doing an album called The Sickos Project along with various artists which will be released posthumously. He supposed to be a special guest for Eraserheads(a prominent Pinoy rock band of the 1990s) last performance on stage last March 7,2009 but sadly he didin't made it.
On March 6, 2009, an anouncement from Vic Sotto( his co-host) on Eat Bulaga(Philippines longest running noontime show where he was one of the
regular hosts) which caused the entire show to pause for silence as he mentioned that he got a call from Pia( Francis M's wife) that Kiko succumbed to multiple organ failure around 12:20PM. His Eat Bulaga family really got emotional especially at the backstage but the show must go on.

Born on October 4, 1964, FrancisM was the son of Pancho Magalona and Tita Duran(famous film stars of 1940s-50s). He's been a loving wife to Pia Arroyo and a good father to his 6 children namely Maxene(actress), Francis Jr., Saab(actress), Elmo, Arkin, & Carla. He also have 2 step-children, Unna and Nicolo. Indeed, he was a multi-talented artist. He started as a breakdancer in 1980s then became an actor. One of his best roles was when he became one of the stars of Bagets2 in 1984. He became one of the pioneering batch of That's Entertainment(a famous youth-orien
ted talent and variety show in 80s-90s) and also became one of the hosts of Loveliness with Alma Moreno. He pioneered the rap music in the country and then claimed as the King of Pinoy Rap. He released several albums like Yo!(1990), Rap is FrancisM(1992), Meron Akong Ano(1993), Freeman(1995), and The Best of FrancisM(2002) among others. Who could ever forget his hit tracks Mga Kababayan Ko, Kaleidoscope World, Girl Be Mine, and Cold Summer Nights? He also became one of the first Pinoy VJ on MTV Asia along with Regine Tolentino in 1997-2000. At the same time, he bacame one of the resident hosts of Eat Bulaga(late 90s-2008). He only started turning invisible on the show when he was diagnosed with leukemia. He's also a photographer and was awarded two medals
by the Camera Club of the Philippines. He's also a music video producer and director. He even founded his own record company, the Red Egg Records and a production company called Filipino Pictures Inc. He's also a designer of his clothing line called Francis M's Clothing Co.(FMCC). But what made him really peculiar was his patriotism. He showed his devotion for his country through his songs like Mga Kababayan Ko(My Fello Countrymen), Man From Manila, Tayo'y Mga Pinoy(We Are Filipinos), Kaleidoscope World, Three Stars and a Sun, and Ito Ang Gusto Ko(This Is What I Like). And on March 8,2009, the Philippine Government made an anouncement that Francis M. will receive a posthumous award of National Medal of Merit for promoting patriotism through music (according to Pia it's better late than never). He also promoted patriotism through his own shirt designs for his clothing line(which are really cute and cool) and even through his tattos.

Francis Magalona is truly a legend for the Philippine music community and an inspiration to every Filipino for his patriotism despite of the negative issues of our country. Somehow, he opened our minds that we won't only need a sword and shed blood for our fellow countrymen... We can be a hero in some way...Kiko, you will always be remembered and will be missed forever...
